Dengue Fever

If this type of flu raises red flags with Dr. Mercola then I think this information should be shared. I’ve been following his articles for about a year now. The Swine Flu didn’t appear to ruffle his feathers much so his concern in this article made me pay extra attention.

'Bone-Crushing' Fever Risk MUCH Greater Threat than Swine Flu
Posted by: Dr. Mercola

December 03 2009

According to the World Health Organization, there are about 50 million new cases of dengue fever around the world each year and about 2.5 billion people, two-fifths of the world's population, are at risk.

Dengue fever is a threat to people in more than 100 countries. It is a flu-like disease that produces a high fever, pain in the eyes and joint aches that can last a week.

Dr. Renu Daval-Drager of the World Health Organization says some cases of what is sometimes called "break bone fever" can be fatal.

There is no vaccine to prevent dengue and no specific medicine to treat it, so the only defense is eradication of the mosquitoes that carry it and measures to protect people from mosquito bites.

But hope is offered by research being carried out at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research in San Antonio, which relies on very special mice. By infecting these humanized mice with strains of the dengue virus, investigators can study how the disease takes hold and what factors might cause the more serious and often deadly dengue hemorrhagic fever.

American Water is Poison

This segment of Dr Oz shocked me. I always knew that our water was bad but this episode left me feeling queasy. Rather than writing a long post about this topic and losing your internet attention spans. I’ll just throw out all the bullet points because everything that was discussed in this episode is very important to all families.

Dr. Oz quote “Much of our water is making us sick, maybe even killing us.”

Every year 20 million people get sick due from water infected with parasites, viruses and bacteria.

1 out of 10 people are exposed to toxic chemical poisoning from manganese, barium, lead and arsenic that is in household water.

The Clean Water Act of 1972 has been violated more than a half million times over the past 5 years. The biggest culprits are businesses.

Here is an example of what damage a business can do to your family. A coal mine was contaminating the water in a Virginia town. For years families were suffering from reparatory problems, skin abnormalities, intestinal disturbances, teeth rotting, blood clots and brain tumors.

Neighbors finally caught on that families were all suffering from the same symptoms. Six people within a 10 mile radius ended up with brain tumors. Brain tumors are supposed to be rare and half of the people died. The families stopped using the tap water. After 1.5 years the symptoms started to improve.

There is no indication if your water is contaminated.

In urban areas there are no more male fish in the water due to all the toxins. Discarded shampoos and medications that seep into our water can change the hormones in our bodies and animals. Think of how much medication gets thrown away each day.

The list goes on and on and frankly it’s just plain scary. The families in Virginia impacted me the most because they now can’t even sell their homes to save their lives. If your house has contaminated water a person legally cannot sell it.

The other thing that got me was picturing bathing my children in all these chemicals. One little boy had all sorts of skin issues. Dr Oz pointed out that when we bathe our pores open up and absorb everything that is in the water. Therefore whole families are being poisoned each day.

Dr Oz stated that this is a mother’s battle since the government is doing nothing to help this situation. He provided a list of things to do to improve your household water.

1. Get a copy of your municipal water report. Find out how much lead, nitrate, nitrite, E coli, arsenic, cyanide and mercury are flowing into your home.

2. Water can get contaminated running through your own pipes so test your water. This is critical in finding out what your family is bathing in. Dr Oz had a Water Safe Drinking Water Test on his show. By the way I bought one and will post about it when I get the results.

3. Filter your water at the sink and shower or purchase a water filtration system for your home.

I’ve got to say it again to the big companies. If you kill us all off there is no money to be made.

The man that started this water awareness campaign is Charles Duhigg a NY Times reporter. He has written extensive articles on what is happening to our water. Thanks Charles. One of the articles discusses the family from Virginia and has pictures.

I also did a post a few months back on the dangers of our shower heads. http://postpartumillness.com/?q=node/143

Atrial Fibrilation Comforting Video

I stumbled upon this video and it gave me comfort. My heart has improved by leaps and bounds over the past year but there is always a concern that things could revert back.

It’s nice to see stories like Phil Mooney’s. I feel a little bit like him as it was just a little over a year ago when I couldn’t even go for a walk with the family. A very mild walk would cause pain and make it hard for me to catch my breath. Carrying my baby up the stairs would leave me recovering for 10 minutes.

It’s good to know that if things do get way out of hand that there is a comfortable place to get things fixed. If you have had heart issues as a patient you know how difficult it can be to get good doctors that actually care.
