This week our family took a step to try and help. Instead of continuously donating to charities we decided to do something different. Living here in a military town our church has an excellent support group for the Marines and their families.

More units were shipped over to Iraq and Afghanistan last month and many of our church members adopt the soldiers. It does not require much just sending over packages filled with cards, letters and some food to remind them of home. The only requirement that our church asks is that we pray for our adopted soldier’s safety every day.
I received these images in an email last month and it inspired me to join this program. My soldiers are Paul and Michael. I don’t know who they are and I hope one day to meet them and give them hugs of thanks.

Thursday I had dinner with an acquaintance that just came back from Iraq. Seeing this third image makes me sad but according to him it’s the reason that many Marines are happy to go over and fight. I was actually surprised at the end of our conversation.

I was feeling sad for Paul and Michael but maybe these two are like the many that are proud to be over there serving our country and helping to rebuild a broken country.
Paul and Michael we are praying for you and look forward to your safe return. My son said he wanted to send you guys veggies so that you stay strong every day.

Beautiful Idea
I love what you and your church are doing here. How encouraging it will be for those soldiers to know that people care and how great to protect them through prayer!
We are praying for two soldiers, Dusty and Ryan that are friends of the family. Bodies and minds need that protection . . .

Wow if I had a sister and a brother over there I would go crazy with worry. How are you doing? Thanks, I wish there were more programs like this out there because I bet more people would help. I had never heard of this until we started attending this church.

Incredible images. Thanks so much for sharing them. My sister is in Afghanistan (non-military) and my brother is being deployed there soon so I can't tell you how grateful I am for people like you who do their part to support them.

Support our Troops
I am definitely not an advocate of war, but I do support the efforts of our troops. Regardless of whether they in fact believe in the decisions by our political leaders, they are the ones who execute those orders. The safety, freedom, and lifestyle we enjoy can be attributed largely to the men and women who defend our nation and the families that sacrifice to support them. I work for the Department of Navy and I am proud to be serving the warfighter in my professional life, I am dating a Navy Service Member and I am proud of his contribution, and I have "adopted" a Marine in Afghanistan who has been serving for 20 years, and I am keenly aware of his sacrifices and I am proud to call him my friend. I think it is important that we treat our service members well and that we truly value their contributions.
